National women’s bowling trials hosted in Windhoek

The national bowling trials took place over the weekend at the Eros Bowling club in Windhoek. The women's trials were held this weekend on Saturday in Windhoek while the men's rounds were hosted at the coast. Participants came from all over the country to take part in the trials that served as preparation to select a national team which will take part in next year's Commonwealth games. President of the Namibia Bowling Club, Sandy Joubert, said although there are good women players, a lot of serious work needs to be put in before selecting a team. “There's a lot for the ladies to work on before then. The teams have to be selected in January if I'm correct, so yes, they have got a lot of work to do still during this year,” he added. Some of the women participants, were hopeful about eventually getting a chance to be selected for the national team. Anjuleen Viljoen said it was a good weekend for them to see their level of competence for the upcoming S.T in Edinburgh. It also served for them to qualify for the commonwealth games. Kailaceley Benjamin said it was her first time to be invited to play for the trials and she was expecting good results. Diana Viljoen added that it was always nice to come and play in Windhoek because of the very good greens for them coming from the coast. “It is quite different because it's very wet in Swakopmund,” she added. The selected national squad will represent Namibia at the commonwealth games scheduled for next year in May at the Gold coast.
