Omuthiya residents welcome new sport facility

Omuthiya sport front runners have expressed their gratitude about the construction of the Omuthiya Sport field, which was a result of a joint venture between Fifa and the Namibia Football Association. It gives athletes in the town and region at large an opportunity to use the state of the art facility for various sport activities. Sport organisers in Omuthiya are enthusiastic about their new sports field, citing that it will provide a fair chance to teams in gaining the necessary experience playing on the turf. “This is a good platform for the young people to excel and to develop their football skills when they are playing in the standard sport stadium. Its existence encourages the young people to partake in sports particularly in soccer” Oshikoto Sport Officer Nico Amadhila said. Local Netball player Maurine Meke also expressed her gratitude. “We are really grateful for this new opportunity that was brought to Omuthiya in form of the new soccer field whereby our players are also happy about it. This stadium attracts a lot of spectators and players around the nearby towns” Meke said. Another sports administrator who will benefit from this facility is Football coach Willibard Hanyemba “It's adding value to the town. When you are hosting sports events either for the benefit of the young ones, the businesses locally are also benefiting. For now we are attracting a huge number of people that are coming” Hanyemba said. Despite their overall excitement, people have also called on the town council to speed up the process of constructing sport facilities for other sport codes and in putting up flood lights to ensure games can be played even at night among other issues. The town council has so far cordoned off a piece of land where the majority of sport facilities for other codes will be constructed in phases.
