Ongwediva Town Council donates sports equipment

The Ongwediva Town Council donated equipment to active sports codes in the town on Thursday. Despite Ongwediva reportedly lagging behind when it comes to provisions of sports facilities, the town council saw it fit to donate equipment worth N$15 000 to Nakapele Volleyball Club, Oshana Basketball Club, Diva Football Club and Ongwediva Youth Development Soccer Academy. Officially handing over the donations, Ongwediva Mayor, Angelina Angula said their donation came as a result of the hard work and commitment to improve sports in the town by those academies, despite the challenges posed by the lack of infrastructure. Angula stressed the importance of sports in the town, as it is a critical factor in the upbringing of the town's youth and can also create better opportunities for athletes who excel at their codes of choice. The donation comes at a time when many of the academies are about to officially kick off their calendar and thus the equipment is set to be put to good use. The beneficiaries thanked council for the gesture, saying it is a good start but called on council to speed up the process of allocating land earmarked for sports as the available areas cannot accommodate the growing number of sport academies any longer. The donation is considered to be council's first step towards sports development at the town.
