Uutoni calls for sports development in all regions

Oshakati- The Minister of Sport, Youth and National Service, Erastus Uutoni, has called on governors and councillors across the country to spearhead sports development projects in their respective regions and constituencies. Uutoni made these remarks during belated Heroes day commemorations, which took place at Uupeke village in Ompundja constituency in Oshana region recently. The minister said those heading political office should also try their best to help develop sports in their areas of jurisdiction, especially in rural areas where sports development continues to move at snail's pace. Uutoni believes that Namibia still has a long way to go to fully ensure that the country's sport fraternity can reach its maximum potential, thus giving businesses and athletes an opportunity to benefit from the thriving industry. “People are getting money through sports. If we are not ensuring that we develop sports in our regions, those in other regions such as Khomas, will continue to benefit from the lucrative incentives. I want all councillors to ensure that they do their best to support sporting activities and serve as a link between business people and athletes so that they can sponsor tournaments as well as help develop the much needed sporting infrastructure” he said. The minister reiterated his ministry's commitment towards guaranteeing that sports is developed to its full potential, which in turn will ensure job creation and income generation.
