Mariental residents warned against scammers

The Mariental Municipality has warned members of the public about scammers calling residents and requesting payments for their municipal services, such as water and electricity supply, not to be disconnected.

In a notice issued, the municipality states it has not appointed anyone to request an e-wallet and EFT payments from residents to avoid the disconnection of municipal services.

It reminded residents that all payments for municipal services are done at the municipal offices for which a receipt is issued and warned them not to make payments to anyone. 

Namibians urged to financially educate themselves

The Erongo Governor Neville Andre has urged Namibians to be financially educated to avoid falling prey to scammers.

Andre said this during the launch of the first-of-its-kind campaign by the Namibian Deposit Guarantee Authority at Swakopmund.

Andre says during the COVID-19 pandemic, criminals adapted their methods to exploit victims' fears over the coronavirus and are now finding new avenues of attack in the high cost of living crisis.

GIPF warns public on scammers

The Government Institutions Pension Fund (GIPF) has warned the public to be wary of scammers soliciting personal financial information from its members in order to access their money.
In a press release issued on Monday, GIPF stated that the goal is to obtain members’ personal information in order to access their money.

Otjozondjupa police warns public to be cautious of pretenders

Police in the Otjozondjupa Region have warned the public to be cautious because there are people impersonating police officers and targeting people who have registered criminal complaints.

Since December last year, community members at Okahandja and nearby areas have been scammed by men targeting people with criminal cases registered and threatening them with demands for payment.
