Police IG disappointed by poor performance in Kavango East

Inspector General of the Police, Joseph Shikongo, has expressed disappointment with the performance of law enforcement officers in the Kavango East Region. 

Following a visit to the region, Shikongo addressed the underperformance and outlined improvement plans.

Lieutenant General Joseph Shikongo says, that despite Kavango East being the second-largest region, there is enough manpower for effective policing. 

He pointed out police visibility as a key to combating crime.

Boys' underperformance academically poses a challenge

The existing gender disparity in academic performance between boys and girls in Namibia poses an academic challenge, as Grades 1–12 from 2012–2019 were in favour of girls, with a high repetition and promotion rate among boys.

A report on 'Namibian Boys: Underachievement and Underparticipation in Education' indicates that self-distracting behaviour and withdrawing from learning activities among the boys are but some of the reasons.

In every 100 graduates, 70% are women.

Rössing Uranium Mine launches 2022 Sustainability and Performance Report

Despite global economic challenges and high inflation rates, the Rossing Uranium Mine has reportedly achieved positive cash flow in 2022, declaring a net profit after tax of N$840 million.

This information was disclosed during the launch of Rossing Uranium's 2022 Sustainability and Performance Report in Windhoek on Monday.

The mine also declared an in-term dividend of N$49.7 million to shareholders.

Strategies discussed on enhancing learner's academic performance at Ohangwena

Ohangwena Governor Walde Ndevashiya has called on stakeholders to come up with strategies to address and improve the teaching and learning environment in an effort to enhance the learners' academic performance.

In his speech read by the chairperson of the Regional Council, Ndevashiya emphasized the importance of stakeholder engagement saying it will contribute enormously to the success and good  academic performance.

Education Directorate in Kavango West embarks on academic performance improvement strategy

The Directorate of Education Arts and Culture in the Kavango West has embarked on a strategy aimed at improving academic performance in the region.
Education Director Pontinus Musore says all stakeholders must have a role to play if a turnaround will be realized.

In an exclusive interview with NBC News Musore said it can no longer be business as usual, hence the strategy called Performance Dialogue.

Musore is currently embarking on regional school visits and consultations to ensure that all stakeholders start the academic year on the right foot.
