RA CEO dismisses claims on awarding road construction tender to Chinese nationals

The Chief Executive Officer of the Roads Authority (RA), Conrad Lutombi, has rubbished claims that he awarded the Usakos-Karibib road construction tender to Chinese nationals.

His response follows allegations that the company gives preference to foreign contractors at the expense of locals.

Lutombi addressed a media briefing in Swakopmund, saying the county will not compromise on the quality of roads by relaxing set requirements to make room for unqualified contractors, especially on high-traffic roads.

The official opposition, PDM has called for the immediate cancellation of the N$650 million tender awarded to a certain company for the procurement of condoms and other clinical supplies.

Addressing the media, the party's leader McHenry Venaani also urged the government to relook at the country's health and education systems.
The recent decision by the Central Procurement Board of Namibia to award a tender worth N$650 million for the acquisition of clinical supplies came under heavy public criticism.
