Several political parties are demanding answers after the Electoral Commission of Namibia (ECN) awarded the ballot paper printing tender for the upcoming Presidential and National Assembly elections to a South African company, Ren-Form CC.
The Landless People's Movement (LPM) is seeking clarity from the ECN after the bidding process for the tender was abruptly canceled on October 7th, just 48 hours before the deadline. Through its lawyers, the LPM has given the ECN seven days to explain why the bidding was scrapped and how the tender was awarded to Ren-Form.
The Independent Patriots for Change (IPC) is calling for a full public disclosure of all procurement documents related to the tender. They have also requested that the Anti-Corruption Commission investigate the ECN's decision-making process.
Meanwhile, the Namibia Economic Freedom Fighters (NEFF) are demanding the immediate cancellation of the tender award. NEFF has warned that if their demand is not met, they will organize national protests, potentially disrupting the election process.
In response to LPM's letter, the ECN has referred the matter to the Attorney General’s office, which will handle the official response.
