Omusati police engages political parties ahead of 2024 general elections

In the run-up to the 2024 general elections, Omusati Regional Police Commander Commissioner Ismael Basson and senior police management in the region engaged the Swapo Party and Independent Patriots for Change (IPC) in a round table discussion.

Commissioner Basson says that with the upcoming 2024 general elections, they found it necessary to inform and educate each other on political tolerance in the Omusati Region in the hope of avoiding clashes between their members.

The Landless People's Movement retained the constituency after its candidate, Willem Labuschagne, won the by-election with 1,272 votes. Swapo Party candidate Elias !Kharuxab obtained 872 votes, while independent candidate and former LPM councillor Gerrit Witbooi received 462 votes.
