In the run-up to the 2024 general elections, Omusati Regional Police Commander Commissioner Ismael Basson and senior police management in the region engaged the Swapo Party and Independent Patriots for Change (IPC) in a round table discussion.

Commissioner Basson says that with the upcoming 2024 general elections, they found it necessary to inform and educate each other on political tolerance in the Omusati Region in the hope of avoiding clashes between their members.

The region has for decades been a no-go area for opposition parties, with Swapo members blocking any form of campaign by other political parties.

However, during the previous elections, the IPC gained entry into the political landscape of the region.
