The official opposition, PDM has called for the immediate cancellation of the N$650 million tender awarded to a certain company for the procurement of condoms and other clinical supplies.

Addressing the media, the party's leader McHenry Venaani also urged the government to relook at the country's health and education systems.
The recent decision by the Central Procurement Board of Namibia to award a tender worth N$650 million for the acquisition of clinical supplies came under heavy public criticism.

Venaani says he has already written to President Hage Geingob requesting for the halting of this tender.

The procurement process of this N$650 million tender is ill-thought and is not a priority area, what we are saying, is divert that money immediately to other areas that need it, medication in hospitals, beddings, and infrastructure upgrades that's the area we need development.

Venaani argues that the acquisition of items such as condoms is not so important when many people are starving.
The PDM leader further complained about many private doctors, working at state hospitals, only once or twice a week and getting paid hefty salaries from the government.
Although the government planned, years back to build a hospital in Katutura,

The PDM leader also vowed to push the government to commence with the long-awaited construction of another hospital in Katutura.

We are saying in the next budget, the budget that is going to be tabled on the 23 February, we are calling on the government conscious to start building a new hospital in this country, the resources are there, we are using the resources, and for as long as we don't any hospital in Windhoek, we are going to scramble on the health sector.

He further promised that his party intends to engage various stakeholders on the issue of poor academic performance in due course.
On the education crisis, we are saying, we will not be political on this matter but we will consult those that need to be consulted, we are going to write to the president in the next week or so, to ask for an appointment to discuss some of these issues that confront our country.
PDM further wants the government to adopt a National Housing Initiative that can address the housing problems in the country.
