The Swapo Party Youth League is dismayed by the re-opening of the Rundu Cash and Carry supermarket before a re-inspection of expired goods was carried out.

The shop was reopened following the Rundu Town Council's signaling of the green light.

A video of expired goods being handled went viral on social media.

Based on that evidence, health inspectors from Rundu Town temporarily closed the main shop after discovering more expired goods on the shelves.

The shop was closed until it could prove that it met hygiene standards.

SPYL calls on government to do away with procurement of goods middlemen

The Swapo Party Youth League is calling on the government to do away with middlemen in the procurement of goods.

SPYL Secretary for Information and Mobilization Moses Shikerete says the 650-million dollar medical supplies tender is evidence that the system is prone to abuse by connected individuals.

Shikerete called for the cancellation of the medical supplies tender and to conduct a thorough review of the whole award process.

The SPYL says the government has personnel in each department to handle procurement without involving intermediaries.
