The Swapo Party Youth League is dismayed by the re-opening of the Rundu Cash and Carry supermarket before a re-inspection of expired goods was carried out.

The shop was reopened following the Rundu Town Council's signaling of the green light.

A video of expired goods being handled went viral on social media.

Based on that evidence, health inspectors from Rundu Town temporarily closed the main shop after discovering more expired goods on the shelves.

The shop was closed until it could prove that it met hygiene standards.

The Swapo Party Youth League's Secretary for Information and Publicity, Moses Shikerete, is now calling on the Rundu Town Council to provide the report compiled by its health inspectors, detailing their findings of that first inspection, which also involved officials from the ministries of labor and health.

"We believe the Rundu Town Council still owes the region and the nation a report through the office of the CEO where the nation can be clearly informed on what the findings are and what led to the opening of Cash and Carry because what we know is that Cash and Carry was shut down after that issue, but now we have learned that it did not take a day or two before Cash and Carry began operating."

Shikerete says he is worried that customers could be consuming the same products they complained about.

"Because the issue of Cash and Carry has been going on for so long, I believe it is time for the Rundu Town Council to act and put their foot down so that Cash and Carry cannot continue to mistreat people in Kavango."

Shikerete claims that this is not the first time Cash and Carry has gotten into trouble.

He called on the inspectors to stand their ground and not endorse any company with which they were not satisfied.

"We cannot be talking about Cash and Carry year in and year out; it looks like they have come and settled comfortably. If there is someone out there that is benefiting at the expense of the others, we are going to get to the bottom of things."

The conditions of the shop's re-opening remain unknown at this stage.

Contacted for comments Rundu's Chief Executive Officer, Olavi Nathaniel, says the report in question is in fact ready.
