2 000 Namibians employed in phases of US Embassy construction

The construction of the new American embassy in Windhoek has seen about two thousand Namibians employed at various stages.

The new building has been completed after three years.

The newly built US Embassy campus offers an attractive sight with its unique materials, such as land stone and light-coloured limestone, and the landscape design further complements the overall look with four thousand indigenous plants and trees.

US Ambassador praises Namibia's media freedom record

The US Ambassador to Namibia, Randy Berry has praised Namibia for its media freedom record.

Namibia is ranked number two on the World Press Freedom Index of Africa.

The US Ambassador during his first engagement with local media emphasized the significant role media plays in strengthening a democratic system.

Randy Berry stated that free and independent media is vital in a democracy, which he says, is evident in both the US and Namibia.

High-level visits are not to counter influence of Russia and China- Amb Berry

The US Ambassador to Namibia, Randy Berry has dismissed claims that the recent high-level visits by US officials are aimed at countering the growing influence of China and Russia on the African continent.

Of late, the African continent has seen high-level visits from the top echelons of the US government amid geo-political tensions between the US, China and Russia.

Earlier this month, US Secretary of State Antony Blinken visited Niger where he announced USD150 million in direct assistance to Africa's Sahel region.
