The US Ambassador to Namibia, Randy Berry has praised Namibia for its media freedom record.

Namibia is ranked number two on the World Press Freedom Index of Africa.

The US Ambassador during his first engagement with local media emphasized the significant role media plays in strengthening a democratic system.

Randy Berry stated that free and independent media is vital in a democracy, which he says, is evident in both the US and Namibia.

He further added that Namibia's recently passed Access to Information Bill speaks to transparency which builds trust and faith in the democratic system.

During his tenure, the new Ambassador will among others, collaborate with Namibian partners to increase trade and investment for the development of an inclusive economy.

Berry was speaking during an engagement with the media, as partners to share information and find ways on how his office can effectively contribute to democracy.
