NHE and Gobabis Municipality deliver 65 homes for low-income residents

The National Housing Enterprise (NHE), in collaboration with the Gobabis Municipality, constructed 65 houses with the aim of ensuring that low-income earners in Gobabis have a roof over their heads.

Gobabis Municipality leadership warned against disunity

The Minister of Urban and Rural Development, Erastus Uutoni, has called on the leaders of the Gobabis Municipality to promote unity amongst themselves in order to address much-needed development in the town.

Uutoni made the remark after lengthy discussions with local authority leaders, staff members, and the community of Gobabis.

This comes after reports of tension among Gobabis Municipality councillors. 

Gobabis Municipality surveys Kanaan Informal Settlement

The Gobabis Municipality has embarked on a land surveying process at Kanaan Informal Settlement, aimed at developing the settlement and ensuring the delivery of long-awaited services, from title deeds to water and electricity.

The process will see all 4,500 registered plots at the settlement demarcated. 

This was revealed by the town's mayor, Melba Tjozongoro, in an interview with nbc News.


Gobabis Mayor Melba Tjozongoro emphasised that the process of developing Kanaan Settlement is long overdue.

Kanaan Informal Settlement land surveying to cost N$900 000

The Kanaan Informal Settlement upgrading team is pleading with the Gobabis municipality to assist them with funds for land surveyors, as the community is finding it difficult to raise the expected amount while the deadline of October 31 set by surveyors is fast approaching.

The team has so far collected N$380,000 of the N$900,000 charged by the surveyors to demarcate the land. The group spokesperson, Jacob Tjinae, told nbc News that the aim is to bring much-needed services to residents through proper land allocations and registration.

Gobabis Municipality commits land

The Gobabis Municipality has committed to providing 250 hectares of town land for agriculture to address food insecurity. This came after various non-governmental organisations and other stakeholders promised to assist the malnutrition-stricken region with sustainable food production projects through the office of the Omaheke Governor.

Nkurenkuru Town Council learns from Gobabis Municipality

A delegation led by officials from the Nkurenkuru Town Council and members of the Shack Dwellers Federation visited the Gobabis Municipality to gain exposure to various key development projects.

Gobabis Council recently provided over 100 serviced housing plots to the federation members in response to the housing shortage.

The Chairperson of the Gobabis Municipality Management Committee, Sylvester Binga, stated that development acceleration would require collective efforts.

Gobabis residents demand suspension of municipal workers allegedly implicated in corrupt activities

Some residents of Gobabis are demanding the suspension of municipal workers who are allegedly implicated in corrupt activities without pay.

A court order issued last month indicated that eight employees who were suspended two years ago must be reinstated because they were suspended unprocedurally.

These are Frieda Uitele, John Endjala, Fillemon Makili, Johannes Nantuua, Ashipala Shilemba, Veinona Steyn, Paul Kayambu, and Kondjeni Nghiwanapo.
