The Ratepayers Association will join residents in a demonstration on 28 July at the Katutura Customer Care Centre of the City of Windhoek.

Their civic action aims to address ongoing grievances with third-party debt collector Red Force, its billing system, and the municipality's internal reports.

The Walvis Bay Management Committee has been accused of boycotting a special council meeting that was aimed at discussing the Red Force Debt Management contract.

The municipality lawyer was supposed to present the findings of an investigation into the Red Force contract at the meeting.

Administrators of the Walvis Bay Municipality say negotiations with Red Force will commence following the official termination of the contract on Wednesday.

Red Force, however, says the latest development is disturbing and comical because it violates the agreement between the two parties.

The City of Windhoek remains unmoved by a recent petition delivered by the Katutura Residents Committee. The residents took to the streets a fortnight ago to air their frustrations with high utility bills and the municipality's use of Red Force to collect debt.

Over a hundred residents of Katutura in the capital, through a committee, are demanding from the City of Windhoek that they write off their water and electricity debts.

The committee also wants the removal of Red Force as a debt collector.

The Okahandja Town Municipality finally received the petition of the aggrieved residents yesterday after failing to do so on five occasions.

Residents want to discuss the appointment of a debt collector, the lack of development as well as the prepaid water system.
