Zambian President Hakainde Hichilema says his government will continue the support that has been extended to Namibia even after the funeral of the late President Hage Geingob.

Hichilema says Zambia, having lost two sitting presidents before, will continue to share the experience that goes with this period.

The Zambian head of state said this in an exclusive interview with nbc News correspondent Wamundila Chilinda before his departure to Lusaka.

Namibians hope to emulate the late President Geingob's selfless nature and prodigious leadership.

As tributes continue to pour in for Dr. Geingob, speakers at the |Khomas Regional Council Tribute Ceremony heaped praise on his efforts to build democracy in the country. 

Although at a loss for words on how to describe the late Dr. Geingob, speakers reminisced about how he championed inclusivity, equality, economic development, and social progression.

Despite drizzling rain, Hardap residents continued with the regional memorial service in honour of the late President Geingob.

As part of the regional memorial services, hundreds of residents gathered at the Mariental Sports Field to pay tribute and honour the man they call like no other.

Halfway into the programme, the rain started to drizzle; however, this did not deter the residents, who sang hymns and marched through the stadium as a tribute to the late President.

President Dr. Nangolo Mbumba has opened the first decision-making Cabinet for the year, imploring the Cabinet to prioritise the timely execution of development projects.

President Mbumba said the first Cabinet meeting is taking place against the backdrop of the passing of the late President Geingob, whose footprints will remain indelible in the annals of the country's history.

He urged the executive to pick up where the late Geingob left off and take the country forward.

The Namibian Broadcasting Corporation's Director General, Stanley Similo, commended the late President Geingob for his influence on media freedom during his visit to Casa Rosalia.

Similo, accompanied by his wife Alna, who is the current Principal of Suiderhof Primary School, visited the family of the late President Geingob to express their condolences and offer their support during this difficult time.

After signing the Book of Condolence, the nbc Director General stated that the late President made a significant impact on media freedom.

President Nangolo Mbumba has called on Namibians to draw solace from the fact that the late President Geingob always encouraged citizens from all walks of life to internalise the country's Constitution as a living document.

The Landless People's Movement (LPM) leader Bernardus Swartbooi added his voice to the tributes pouring in for the late President Geingob.

Swartbooi said he had hoped that the late president would recover after his medical treatment, adding that he was shocked at his sudden demise.

Swartbooi recounted his recent visit to Dr. Geingob's house.

Egypt has hailed Namibia's position in Israel's war on Gaza, which calls for an end to attacks and for Israel to refrain from engaging in provocative acts against the Palestinian people.

Namibia, just like Egypt and other African countries in particular, have been urging Israel to respect international humanitarian laws and to have greater regard for civilians, including women and children, as well as civilian infrastructure.
