Hail storm brings destruction to villages in Endola

Strong winds, accompanied by hailstorms and rain, caused damage to houses in Onepandaulo Village in the Endola Constituency of Ohangwena Region on Saturday evening.

Roofs were blown off, and trees were uprooted. Fruit trees, on which many depend for an income, were also not spared.

Boundary walls were flattened by Mother Nature, while some houses, like that of Christophina Shivute, were destroyed.

The destruction left many residents helpless and open to nature's mercy.

ALAN describes 2023 a year of success

As the year draws to a close, Association of Local Authorities Namibia (ALAN) President Samuel !Oë-Amseb says councils and village settlements across the country have worked tirelessly to deliver services to their residents amidst the challenges of full funding for development projects.

!Oë-Amseb expressed these views during an interview with nbc News at Tsumeb.

!Oë-Amseb says many local authorities managed to address water provision challenges, sewer reticulation, and housing development despite hefty rates and tax debt incurred by residents.

Omaheke villages battle veldfires

Villages in the eastern part of Otjinene Constituency, bordering the Eiseb area in the Omaheke Region, are battling a veldfire that has destroyed vegetation and much-needed grazing.

Oturauhane Village Headman, Alfons Tjipetekera, says the persistent windy conditions have made the already strong fire difficult to extinguish.

Tjipetekera added that with available assistance from the government, the fire can hopefully be put out.

He, however, fears that the grazing land on which the farmers depend will be completely destroyed.

IPC president conducts regional visits

Independent Patriots for Change (IPC) president, Dr. Panduleni Itula, recently concluded a grassroots regional tour, where he visited nine regions and over 300 villages.

Dr. Itula's visits were aimed at engaging with rural and urban communities to acquaint himself with the living standards and livelihoods of ordinary Namibians ahead of the 2024 presidential elections.
