About eight shacks and a repair shop burnt down in the Havanna Settlement at about 15:00 on Saturday in Oshakati Street, leaving more than 50 people homeless.

The fire has left a devastating impact on the residents in the area, as they have lost their homes and properties, with only rubble remaining.

A 62-year-old resident of Windhoek's Goreangab area, Maripurua Kotjipari, has been left homeless after his shack burnt down.

Kotjipari was reading by candlelight at nine o'clock in the evening when he fell asleep.

Families of the victims of the recent shack fire in the Tulinawa and Mondesa residential areas in Swakopmund are still traumatised and left at the mercy of good Samaritans.
