About eight shacks and a repair shop burnt down in the Havanna Settlement at about 15:00 on Saturday in Oshakati Street, leaving more than 50 people homeless.

The fire has left a devastating impact on the residents in the area, as they have lost their homes and properties, with only rubble remaining.

Residents say they do not know the cause of the fire, but they tried by all means to contain it until the fire emergency team arrived, which was, unfortunately, too late.

They are currently taking shelter under a veranda in the nearby neighbourhood, where they have managed to get some donations from fellow community members.

They are, however, worried that the weather may not be in their favour.

When contacted by nbc News, Councillor of the Moses ||Garoëb Constituency, Stefanus Ndengu, stated that they are aware of the incident and are working on a solution.
