!Aman Traditional Authority to elect new leaders at Bethanie

The !Aman Traditional Authority has announced that clan members will elect a new leader on April 20 at Bethanie Village. 

Johannes Swartz, !Aman Traditional Authority Chairperson, says the Minister of Urban and Rural Development, Erastus Uutoni, authorised the election to resolve a longstanding chieftaincy succession dispute. 

He explained that the minister decided on the election for a new leader after the !Aman Royal Family, within the set period of three months, had failed to resolve the succession issue. 

Local authorities called to prioritise proper sanitation

Local authorities are being urged to prioritise giving residents access to fundamental services like water and proper sanitation.

The Deputy Minister of Urban and Rural Development, Evelyn Nawase-Taeyele, emphasised this necessity at the commissioning and groundbreaking ceremony in Kamanjab, Kunene Region.

The event marked the beginning of a significant project that will provide bulk sewerage and reticulation systems to 12,000 households, coupled with the development of low-cost housing.

Local Authority political office bearers receive allowance increases

Political office bearers serving in Part II municipalities, towns, and village councils will receive increases in their monthly allowances, which came into effect on the first of this month.

Councillors in municipalities will receive 10%, while those on town and village councils will receive 15% and 20%, respectively.

Councillors will also receive benefits such as airtime and sitting allowances.
