The City of Windhoek's Solid Waste Management contract workers have downed tools.

Workers said they have been on temporary contracts for years, some extending over a decade, and face the uncertainty of unemployment at the end of July.

The workers submitted petitions in 2023 and April 2024 this year but have yet to receive any responses.

Growing impatient, they now demand answers directly from the Minister of Urban and Rural Development.

The workers gathered outside the Ministry of Urban and Rural Development as a listening ear.

This was a follow-up protest, with the workers demanding answers for job security and fair treatment.

The petition was handed over last year, and it represented not just their grievances but their hopes and dreams for a stable life.

The workers are steadfast until the petition is received and will be waiting for a response that will determine their future and whether their contracts will be renewed by the end of July 2024.

Erastus Uutoni, at a later stage, came and informed the workers that they would receive their answers within a week.
