First 2024 Swapo Party CC meeting set for 09 March

The Swapo Central Committee's first meeting for 2024 on Saturday will be held without its elected president and chairperson, Dr. Hage Geingob.

The death of Dr. Geingob on February 4 robbed the Swapo Party of its president. 

After three weeks of mourning, Dr. Geingob was buried at the Heroes Acre on February 25.

It will be a sombre affair, as Geingob's place on the podium will be taken by his vice president, Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah.

Jona Amunyela buried

A veteran of the national liberation struggle, Jona Amunyela, was buried at Odibo in the Ohangwena Region on Friday.

He died on December 13th, at the age of 66.

Amunyela joined the Swapo Party in 1970 and went into exile four years later.

He was trained in infantry at Kasapa in Angola, and in 1976 he was deployed to the North Western Front.

The same year, he went to Cassinga and Lubango, respectively, where they established the Tobias Hainyeko Training Centre.

National Assembly adopts motion to discuss former mine workers compensation

The National Assembly has adopted a motion addressing the inclusion of Namibian former mine workers in southern Africa for compensation.

The motion was moved by Swapo Party MP Sebastiaan Karupu, who urged the house to directly adopt the motion to avoid referrals to the standing committee, citing potential delays and resource constraints.
