President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah has convened a two-day induction workshop for regional governors, aimed at equipping them with the necessary knowledge and tools to effectively carry out their roles in governance.

The Minister of Urban and Rural Development, James Sankwasa, has taken note of a rise in demand for affordable, serviced land in urban areas, particularly in Windhoek, and is thus considering viable solutions to the ongoing housing crisis. 

The leaders of the Landless People's Movement criticised the Minister of Urban and Rural Development, James Sankwasa, for allegedly intimidating regional and local councillors and attempting to impose the Swapo Party manifesto over constitutional governance.

In a meeting between the Minister of Urban and Rural Development, James Sankwasa, the Daure Daman Traditional Authority, and a concerned group, it was resolved that the nomination of Chief Sagarias Seibeb was procedurally incomplete.

The Urban and Rural Development Minister has urged the housing sector role players to contribute to the realisation of President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah's target to build 10,000 houses this financial year.

The Henties Bay Municipality has provided plots to low-income earners at a price of N$1,600 per plot.

Regional and local authority councils from opposition parties have been reminded to refrain from acting independently from the central government.

Minister of Urban and Rural Development James Sankwasa said no regional and local authority councils should operate in such a manner.

Namibia has an interest in implementing Zambia's decentralisation policy, particularly the devolution of functions from central government to the local authority level.

The business community and residents of Katima Mulilo say a lack of consultation on development matters by the council has resulted in stagnation. 

They raised this concern during a consultative meeting with the Minister for Urban and Rural Development, James Sankwasa.
