Kavango East Governor Hamunyera Hambyuka and his team inspected the water supply infrastructure in Rundu just a day after Urban and Rural Development Minister James Sankwasa's meeting on the water crisis.
Rundu Town Council's Strategic Executive for Infrastructure, Sakaria Shopati, gave the background on the current situation when it comes to water infrastructure in the town.
"The infrastructure that is in place for NamWater can only supply a maximum of 850 cubic meters per hour, whereas the town demand is 1,400 cubic meters per hour. So that already gives you a difference of about 550 cubic metres per hour shortfall. However, we are also busy investigating the supply route. If there are any leakages, if there is a loss of pressure elsewhere. The final solution will be submitted to the governor's office latest Monday."
The governor and his team visited the NamWater reservoir in Tutungeni as well as Rundu Town Council's water tower in Sauyemwa.
Sankwasa had initially given the leadership two days to find a lasting solution to the town's water crisis.
"By Monday, is the only time when we can tell what the outcome is. Because what we agreed is that we have given it over to the technocrats for them to work it out and investigate, and see why there is a problem. Why is there a crisis when it comes to water in Rundu? So, they will work it out. We're only waiting for them to report, then we'll know exactly what is happening and the way forward. For now, one could not conclude to give the way forward," said Governor Hambyuka.
