Mines and Energy Minister Natangue Ithete faced questions from fellow MPs around expected electricity price hikes, particularly how low-income households are to cope.

Namibian consumers will brace themselves for higher electricity bills after the Electricity Control Board approved a 3.8% tariff increase for NamPower, effective 1 July 2025. 

Consumers are expected to fork out more from their pockets for electricity as of July 1st, as the Electricity Control Board (ECB) approved an 8% bulk tariff increment. 

This means the current N$1.98 kilowatts per hour has now increased to N$2.14 kilowatts per hour for the 2024–2025 financial period.
