Malawian government has cancelled state-funded Independence Day celebrations for 6 July 2026 and dedicated the day to national prayer and thanksgiving.

The government has reiterated its commitment to working hand in hand with faith-based organisations to ensure national stability, unity, and sustainable development. 

The Alliance of Christian Churches in Namibia (ACCN) brought together churches from various denominations for a national prayer focused on peaceful elections and the blessing of rain.

The prayers sought divine guidance for political leaders, peace, and prosperity for all citizens.
