The Alliance of Christian Churches in Namibia (ACCN) brought together churches from various denominations for a national prayer focused on peaceful elections and the blessing of rain.
The prayers sought divine guidance for political leaders, peace, and prosperity for all citizens.
They also prayed for the protection of the electoral process, hoping that all citizens would be able to vote freely.
Despite the outcry for change from many Namibians, Apostle Haruna Goroh emphasised that the nation continues to enjoy peace.
"God knows the heart of all the people; it has nothing to do with political parties; it has to do with the heart of the people. You can change the colours of the parties, but the heart remains the same. That's why we must pray."
|Khomas Governor Laura McLeod Katjirua spoke on the importance of the event, stating that the church remains a pillar of the nation's peace and unity.
"One of the most significant ways the church can contribute today is by encouraging active involvement in our national elections. We are living in a time where many voices are raised concerning voter apathy and political disengagement, especially among our youth. The church has an important role in ensuring that every Namibian understands the significance of their contribution to the democratic process and nation-building."
The Executive Chairperson of the ACCN, Dolly Nengushe, highlighted the importance of the gathering, noting that it symbolises the collective effort to uplift Namibia through prayer, seeking God's blessings for the nation.
"As we prepare for the upcoming elections, prayer becomes even more critical; that's why we are here this afternoon. The church's role is not only to pray for peace but also to ensure that our political leaders are held accountable to the highest standards of justice, integrity, and service."
