City of Windhoek Communications Manager Harold Akwenye has clarified that relocating flood victims to Farm 508 was an emergency measure meant to protect those individuals from immediate flood danger.

A year after flash floods displaced them from their homes, many families relocated to Farm 508 on the outskirts of Windhoek in the Goreangab area say they are still facing severe daily hardships.

The City of Windhoek has acknowledged the concerns raised by residents at Farm 508 regarding service delivery and poor road infrastructure.

It says it is doing its best to improve living conditions in the area and has made progress since the flood victims were relocated to the farm early this year.

Flood victims who were moved to Farm 508 on the outskirts of Goreangab are satisfied with the plots on which they were settled by the City of Windhoek.

However, there are some challenges, particularly with transport for their school-going children.

The Samora Machel Constituency councillor says there is a need for ongoing engagements with the relocated residents of Farm 508.

Nestor Kalola says the area's new residents can contribute to the setting up of some of the utilities identified.

The City of Windhoek Councillor Ivan Skrywer says the city is ready to relocate those affected by the flash flood to Farm 508 behind the Goreangab Informal Settlement. Councillor Skrywer described the findings of the flood assessment as disturbing, pointing to the seriousness of the flood situation.
