NARETU supports striking workers with 70% salary payout

The Namibian Revolutionary Transport and Manufacturing Union (NARETU) has stepped in to pay 70% of their monthly salary to the striking employees of Pretorius Plant Hire.

The eight employees have been on a 'no work, no pay' strike for 43 days since March.

The Trade Union Congress of Namibia (TUCNA) marked International Workers' Day at Lüderitz with its core message, centred around the welfare of the workers and better employment conditions. 

 The day was celebrated under the theme, "Industrialisation, Trade, and Decent Work for Social Justice."

Nujoma's role in forming workers' union remembered

Swapo Party Central Committee member Laurencia Stephanus remembers the Founding President, Dr. Sam Nujoma, as instrumental in forming the National Union of Namibian Workers (NUNW) in the 1970s.

The NUNW became the mouthpiece for workers' rights during the Apartheid era.
