A delegation from the Education Directorate in the Otjozondjupa Region this week engaged with underperforming schools in the Tsumkwe Constituency.

Otjozondjupa Governor John ||Khamuseb has raised concerns over challenges in implementing capital projects in the health and sanitation sectors.

He voiced this during a courtesy call by the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Gender Equality, Health and Social Welfare at Otjiwarongo.

The Otjozondjupa Education Directorate has reassured parents of the safety of learners.

This follows after a teacher at Wilhelm Nortier Primary School in Grootfontein was arrested last year in connection with an alleged sexual assault involving school-going boys.

The Ministry of Health and Social Services has announced 32 confirmed cholera cases in the Grootfontein District as of 12 January. Of 99 suspected cases, 32 were confirmed, with zero deaths recorded.

Otjozondjupa Health Director Gerbhado Timotheus has expressed concern over the increase in cholera cases at Grootfontein, with 22 positive cases confirmed.

The 22 cases stem from 83 samples tested, with 40 testing negative and the rest remaining pending.

The Tsumkwe constituency office, through the Otjozondjupa Regional Council, has stepped in to strengthen the education sector.

The office donated a photocopy machine and other school essentials to Makata Primary School.

One of the Namibian Broadcasting Corporation's long-serving cameramen, Eddy Eneas, was buried at Grootfontein on Saturday.

Eneas died on the 24th of October at Oshakati Intermediate Hospital after a short illness.

A team of experts from the Ministry of Education, Innovation, Youth, Sports, Arts and Culture is assessing the condition of infrastructure of tertiary public institutions to identify gaps and develop a national plan for such facilities.

The leadership of the Otjozondjupa Region has requested that the government prioritise upgrading the Grootfontein-Tsumkwe road to bitumen standards.

The call was made during an engagement with the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Transport, Infrastructure and Housing at Otjiwarongo.
