The Deputy Minister of Finance and Public Enterprises, Maureen Hinda-Mbuende, has called on Chief Executive Officers to ensure that Boards of Directors are accountable for funds wasted on unconstructive labour issues.

Maureen Hinda-Mbuende was speaking at the annual general meeting of the Public Enterprises Chief Executive Officers at Rietfontein in the Otjozondjupa Region.

The Directorate of Education, Arts, and Culture in the Otjozondjupa Region is revamping its strategy aimed at improving the results of the learners in the region.

The directorate's Chief Education Officer, Markus Munenge, says they will be hosting the Capacity Development Programme in response to the teachers' needs.

With poor performance in 2021, the Otjozondjupa Education Directorate hosted a CPD workshop to train only the Grade 11 teachers.

Resettled farmers in Otjozondjupa plead for support

Resettled farmers in the Otjozondjupa Region continue to face a number of obstacles that hinder agricultural activities.

This was revealed by the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Natural Resources.

The visit was aimed at evaluating the productivity of resettlement farms, examining the role of resettlement farmers in job creation and food self-sufficiency, and assessing the government's terms of financing and training.

The Minister of Health and Social Services, Dr. Kalumbi Shangula, has called on health centres not to allow challenges that require immediate solutions to persist, saying some minor issues do not need to go through the bureaucratic system for approval to be corrected.

Dr. Shangula made these remarks at Omatako Clinic, where he concluded his visits to health facilities in the Otjozondjupa Region.

The team, including the regional health management, visited the health facilities in Okakarara, Grootfontein, Etunda, Otavi, and Kombat.

Ambulance challenges in Otjozondjupa receive attention

The challenges of a lack of aging ambulances in the Otjozondjupa Region are finally receiving attention.

The region only has two functioning ambulances out of a fleet of six to transport patients to and from the district hospitals of Okahandja, Otjiwarongo, and Grootfontein.

The Minister of Health and Social Services, Dr. Kalumbi Shangula, acknowledged the shortage of ambulances and gave assurance that the ministry would speed up the process to procure one for Okakarara.

MICT introduces Digital Literacy Programme

As the world moves toward digitalization, the Ministry of Information and Communication Technology has introduced a Digital Literacy Program.

The program was launched by ICT's Deputy Minister Emma Theofelus at Tsumkwe in the Otjozondjupa Region, and it will be rolled out to other regions during the pilot phase.

Speaking during her engagement with Ohangwena Governor Walde Ndevashiya, Theophilus says the Digital Literacy Program aims to equip Namibians with computer literacy.

Parliamentary Standing Committee on Natural Resource visits Otjozondjupa Region

The Parliamentary Standing Committee on Natural Resource paid a visit to the Otjozondjupa Region to familiarise itself with operations at various companies.

The charcoal industry and rural electrification top the list of concerns in the region.


At the start of its tour, the parliamentary committee made its first stop at the Office of the Otjozondjupa Governor, James Uerikua.

Uerikua informed the committee members of the struggles in the charcoal industry, which have led to veld fires in the region.

Anna Andimba elected as Chairperson of Junior National Council

Anna Andimba, from the Otjozondjupa Region, has been elected as the Chairperson of the Junior National Council, deputized by Joseph Hamutenya from the |Khomas Region.

Juliah Tsowases, representing the Erongo Region, has been elected Chief Whip.

Addressing the junior MPs, the Chairperson of the National Council, Lukas Muha, congratulated the newly elected members.

He also reminded the current Junior National Council of their duties and to be watchful of unfolding events nationally and internationally. 

All learners placed in schools in Otjozondjupa Region

About 287 Grade 8 learners who could not secure school placement in the Otjozondjupa Region have finally returned to class.

The learners are now accommodated in classrooms at different project schools in Otjiwarongo and Okahandja.

Otjozondjupa Education Director, Josephine Mutenda told nbc News that learners returned to class this week.

Mutenda says eight learners in Okahandja Circuit did not manage to secure placement at the start of this academic year, while Otjiwarongo had 279 pupils on a waiting list.

Plans underway to renovate and revamp Mangetti Health Centre at Tsumkwe Constituency

Plans are underway to renovate and revamp the Mangetti Health Center at Tsumkwe Constituency in Otjozondjupa Region, which is in a dilapidated state.

This was confirmed by Regional Health Director, Gerbardo Timotheus, following risk assessments done in 2022 .

Timotheus says a budget of more than N$1 million will this be allocated towards the construction, including kitchen and laundry renovations, of the Mangetti Health Centre.

Initially, the center served as a military clinic during the apartheid era, after which Government than took over the- management.
