Division among staff in Otjozondjupa causes regression

Division amongst staff members at schools led to the regression of the Otjozondjupa Region to the 6th position.

Otjozondjupa Acting Education Director Uerivangera Tjivikua mentioned the division to nbc News.

For the past three years, the Otjozondjupa Region has been in the fifth position but has regressed to the sixth position in the National Senior Secondary Certificate Advance Subsidiary Level and seventh in the Ordinary Level.

In terms of candidates who qualified for the advanced subsidiary, the region is in eighth place.

Otjozondjupa Electrification

The electrification of rural areas will be a main priority for the Otjozondjupa Regional Council in 2024.

The regional authority aims to electrify the Tsumkwe and Gam settlements first.

Otjozondjupa Governor James Uerikua says these two settlements are the only areas in the region that are still powered by solar and diesel generators.

In an interview with nbc News, Uerikua says an assessment of the rural electrification needs of Tsumkwe and Gam is now complete and only awaiting funding to start in the coming year.

Swapo Party restores unity in Otjozondjupa

The Swapo Party Coordinator for the Otjozondjupa Region says the region is no longer the subject of attention from the party's headquarters and the national leaders assigned to it because of divisions that had plagued it in the past.

Imms Namaseb said that unity has since been restored after experiencing divisions among party members at all levels that led to intense rivalry and smear campaigns among the party faithful.

Learners urged to familiarise themselves with national symbols

The Minister of Information and Communication Technology (MICT) has encouraged learners to familiarise themselves with the country's national symbols, as they are more than just words and images.

Dr. Peya Mushelenga was speaking at the launch of the Regional Activation of the National Symbols Campaign in the Otjozondjupa Region.

With the aim of deepening the understanding and appreciation of Namibia's national symbols, Otjiwarongo residents, including nurses, police officers, and school learners, were part of a street parade brandishing the Namibian flag.

The Police in the Otjozondjupa Region have called on the inhabitants to continue cooperating with law enforcement agencies to curb criminal activities.

Otjozondjupa Police Commander Commissioner Henrich Tjiveze made this call during an outreach awareness campaign on drug law enforcement in Otjiwarongo.

The outreach campaign, which was mainly attended by children, aims to educate members of the public on the impact and consequences of engaging in criminal activities.

Police Arrest Three for Cannabis Possession

Police in the Otjozondjupa Region have arrested two men, aged 44 and 39, in the Omatako area, Tsumkwe West, as they were going to deliver another consignment of cannabis.

The drugs found on the suspects consist of 24 parcels of cannabis valued at N$123,000.

Another suspect was arrested at Kandu, Tsumkwe West, after she was found in possession of 20 parcels of cannabis valued at N$180,000 on Wednesday.

The 27-year-old woman was arrested after a tip-off.

All suspects will appear in the Grootfontein Magistrate's Court today.

Namibia Deposit Guarantee Authority's awareness
