Zambezi Police conduct awareness on explosive devices

Police in the Zambezi Region held a community outreach programme to educate and sensitise the public on the dangers of explosive ordinances.

The intervention follows the recent explosion of a hand grenade, which resulted in the deaths of three children in Mpancha when they brought it home.

The outreach programme at Kongola featured dramas and a showcase of different explosive devices found.

Zambezi Police Commander Andreas Shilelo cautioned the public to be aware of their surroundings, urging elders to educate young children about the dangers of explosives.

Kongola residents warned to stay vigilant against human trafficking

The Zambezi Regional Head of Immigration, Daisy Musweu, has cautioned residents of Kongola to be more vigilant against human trafficking.

Musweu issued the warning during a community outreach programme by the Ministry of Home Affairs, Immigration, Safety, and Security aimed at educating the public on issues of human trafficking, gender-based violence, and the dangers of explosive ordinances.

Annual public entity communication and public relations conference starts

The Minister of Information and Communication Technology (MICT), Emma Theofelus, officially opened the annual public entity communication and public relations conference at Katima Mulilo, which is being attended by all communications practitioners under the theme "Bridging the Gap through Communications.".

The platform offers attendees knowledge and skills that could better their organisations, encourage participation, and put to work lessons learned.

Nsundano Technical School to construct two new classrooms

Nsundano Technical School at Bukalo in the Zambezi Region will soon commence construction of two new classrooms. 

This was revealed at the ground-breaking ceremony at the school on Wednesday.

The principal of the Nsundano Technical School said additional classrooms will benefit the students not only in theory but in practice as well.

Paul Knoblauch, the advisor for pre-vocational subjects in the Directorate of Education, Arts, and Culture in the Zambezi Region, expressed his excitement about the developments at the technical school. 

Liberation Struggle veteran welcomes Independence celebrations at Katima Mulilo

A veteran of the Liberation Struggle, Ellen Musialela, has welcomed the government’s decision to host Namibia’s 34th Independence celebrations at Katima Mulilo, Zambezi Region. 

The region, at the time known as the Caprivi Strip, was an important gateway to freedom, with many freedom fighters and refugees crossing into neighbouring Zambia through the area. 

While the Caprivi Strip was initially isolated, by the 1970s, more and more Namibians were crossing into exile through Caprivi. 

Parliamentary Committee raises concerns over the misuse of funds for capital projects

The Chairperson of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Constitutional and Legal Affairs, Cletius Karondo, says that funds allocated to some capital projects are not used for the intended projects.

Karondo made the remarks at Katima Mulilo, where the Committee assessed the existing planned capital projects and those under construction.

Karondo says that after getting clear pictures of the progress on the ground, the National Assembly will be able to advise the responsible ministries and agencies on what should be done moving forward.

Zambezi to host independence celebrations

The Ministry of Information and Communication Technology announced that this year's Independence Day celebrations will be held at Katima Mulilo.

The day marks the country's 34th independence anniversary.

All Namibians are invited to Katima Mulilo to celebrate the day that paved the way for Namibia's freedom.

The Executive Director of the Ministry, Dr. Audrin Mathe, announced in a statement that the Zambezi Region was chosen to host this year's Independence Day celebrations. 

Omega 3 residents express intent to join Kavango

Residents of Omega 3 in the Zambezi Region have expressed their intention to apply to become part of the Kavango Region.

This decision stems from their dissatisfaction with the local leadership's alleged failure to address the community's development needs.

During the demonstration, community members highlighted years of neglect and a lack of essential services, despite repeated complaints to regional authorities.

Zambezi pays tribute to a gallant leader

Residents of the Zambezi Region gathered at the Katima Mulilo Sports Complex on Friday to mourn the death of the late president, Dr. Hage Geingob.

Zambezi Governor Alufea Sampofu expressed his condolences on behalf of the region, noting that the late president was a gallant and humble leader.

Sampofu reiterated that Geingob loved his country and joined the struggle for independence at the tender age of 27 to ensure Namibia's liberation from colonialism and change the apartheid regime to one run by the Namibian people themselves.

Mashi Nfumu says late Geingob lived an ordinary life

Mashi  Nfumu Joseph Tembwe Mayuni in the Zambezi Region says his community feels a dark cloud has befallen on them and is yet to come to terms with the death of the late president Geingob.

Nfumu Mayuni made the remarks at the Mashi Traditional Authority's memorial service for the late head of state.

Mayuni said Dr. Geingob lived like an ordinary person, despite his status.

He noted that the late President could laugh when he found people laughing and could dance, if he found the community dancing.
