Debates heat up in National Assembly

In a tumultuous turn of events, the National Assembly session scheduled for Thursday failed to proceed as anticipated, as it was marred by exchanges and heated debates right from the beginning.

The session quickly spiralled into chaos as Members of Parliament raised concerns about the dwindling attendance among their colleagues, demanded accountability, and proposed significant changes to the system.

High Court circuit session in Zambezi

The Judiciary's office will conduct a High Court circuit session in the Zambezi Region.

Four cases are expected to be tried during the two-week period commencing Thursday until the 31st of August in Katima Mulilo.

NamRA's creative industry engagement session

The Namibia Revenue Agency (NamRA) is inviting the creative industry for a stakeholder engagement session next Tuesday.

The engagement session is necessitated following concerns from the creatives on tax registration and payment.

Appropriate tax categories for their profession, as well as challenges at borders with customs officials when they import or export their material, will be addressed.

NamRA hosts Authorised Economic Operation session

The Head of Customs and Excise at the Namibia Revenue Agency (NamRA), Wilbroad Poniso, says the agency has been working tirelessly towards streamlining the way of doing business by ensuring efficiency, protection, and compliance in the global supply chain.

Poniso was speaking during an awareness session on the Authorised Economic Operation (AEO) at Walvis Bay.

The  AEO Programme serves as a vital instrument in achieving NamRA objectives.

National Council to resume

The National Council Chairperson, Lukas Sinimbo Muha, has announced the resumption of the eighth session of the National Council, which is scheduled to last for the next three weeks.

He emphasised the importance of a speedy yet effective review process, with a particular focus on the eight urgent Bills that have already been referred to the council.

National Assembly cancels session due to lack of quorum

The National Assembly could not continue with its session on Thursday, due to a lack of a quorum.

 

Upon entry into the chamber, Deputy Speaker of the House, Loide Kasingo did not take the usual affirmation, but instead inquired about the next move from the Front Desk Officials. 

 

PDM member in the National Assembly Elma Dienda demanded that a roll call be taken to establish whether there is a quorum or not before any action is taken. However, her request was not entertained by the Deputy Speaker.
