The Minister of Health and Social Services has urged residents in regions affected by a malaria outbreak to do their part in protecting themselves while the ministry and its partners intensify efforts to contain the outbreak.
The Oshikoto Regional AIDS Coordinating Committee (RACOC) held its quarterly meeting with various institutions as well as non-governmental organisations in Omuthiya.
Malaria cases are on the rise in the Ohangwena Region, prompting the regional health directorate to declare an outbreak.

Malaria cases in the Ohangwena Region reached high numbers between September 2024 and the 5th of January, with 1,888 cases recorded over that period.
Of these, 844 were local and 1,044 non-local, with cases ranging from as young as six months, to 101 years.
The Ministry of Health and Social Services (MoHSS) has warned the public of increased malaria cases in Namibia, particularly in malaria-endemic regions, over the past four weeks.
Between November 4 and December 15, the country reported 2,210 malaria cases, with 265 severe cases leading to 9 deaths.
