NCRST observes International Day of Girls in ICT

The underrepresentation of women and girls in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics fields continues to persist despite efforts made to promote diversity and inclusion in STEM.

It's for this reason that a day such as the International Day of Girls in Information and Communication Technology is observed to promote gender equality and empower women and girls in the fields of ICT and science, respectively.

NCRST, NUST host a hackathon to tackle Namibia's road accident crisis

The National Commission on Research, Science, and Technology (NCRST), in conjunction with the Namibian University of Technology (NUST), is hosting a hackathon event. 

The event brought together local and international innovators, researchers, students, and developers with the shared goal of reducing road accidents through technological advancements.

Namibia, like other countries, is faced with a public health concern over road accidents that rob nations of productive citizens.

Over 90 Namibians received scholarships to study green hydrogen related courses

Over 90 Namibian students received scholarships to study various related courses in the green hydrogen industry, availed through grant funding from Germany.

Sixty awardees will undertake Master's Degree courses, while 30 will undertake their studies at the local Vocational Training Centres.

The awarding ceremony took place at the State House.


The scholarships are part of the Namibian Youth for Green Hydrogen Scholarship Programme and attracted 1 128 applicants after the applications were opened in March last year.

NAB & NCRST sign a new agreement

The Namibia Agronomic Board and National Commission on Research, Science and Technology have signed a new agreement to facilitate agricultural research, innovation, value-addition and tests of crops that emanate from Genetically Modified Organisms.

The NAB will also draft regulations on the exportation, and importation of local production to scruitinise the safety of such products in and beyond Namibia.

NHC and NCRST sign partnership agreement

The National Heritage Council of Namibia and the National Commission on Research, Science and Technology have signed a partnership agreement aimed at reforming and harmonising the operations of the two entities.

The National Heritage Council of Namibia provides protection and conservation of heritage places, while the NCRST promotes, coordinates, and develops research.

In terms of the agreement, NCRST will provide funding for the development of research in science and technology in Namibia.

Oshikoto crowned overall Namibia Mathematics Olympiad winner

The Oshikoto Region emerged as the overall winner of the second Namibia Mathematics Olympiad (NMO), which was held in the capital on Thursday, the region had four participating schools, Tsumeb Secondary School, Oshilulu Community School, Onguti Secondary School, and Heroes Private School, which each received N$10,000 worth of mathematics and science equipment.
