Dordabis owners to give more land to government for development

Dordabis village is partly owned by the government, with the rest owned privately. 

The population of the village, which is around 3,000 people, is cramped on this land. 

Some of the public services, such as the graveyard, are falling into private land owned by the Kraft family. Some of these services come at a hefty price for some impoverished and unemployed families.

The graveyard at the village has been an issue of contention, particularly its status as being privately owned.  

|Khomas leaders reponds to Dordabis' infight

The |Khomas regional council has reacted to the call by Dordabis residents by dispatching boots on the ground to fix the broken-down water infrastructure.

The small community of the settlement embarked on a land-grabbing spree on Thursday before a physical fight broke out due to illegal water connections, which resulted in the breakage of water pipes and underground cylinders.

On Friday, the mood of the residents was different from the violent one exhibited the day before.

INTERVIEW | Dordabis residents in land conflict

Residents of Dordabis settlement in Windhoek Rural Constituency yesterday ended up in an all-out brawl over land.

The conflict started with a group of disgruntled individuals who decided to illegally occupy state-owned land and put up structures, much to the annoyance of another group, who insisted they follow the processes in place.

Tulipamwe Savings Group demand serviced land

The Tulipamwe Savings Group has demanded that the Walvis Bay Municipality allocate land to its members at portion 10 of Farm 37 on the outskirts of the town.

The group secretary, Lidker Moses, says the council has allocated unserviced land at Portion 12 to them, while the group prefers to reside at Portion 10, where there are services.

Moses says members have been demanding land at Farm 37 since 2016.

The regional leadership in 2015 identified Farm 37, a few kilometres east of the harbour town, as a solution to the land and housing backlog.

Luderitz TC donates land to COSDEC

The donation of land measuring 6,000 square metres has given a boost to plans to construct a Community Skills Development Centre in Luderitz. 

Luderitz Town Council officially handed over the donated land to COSDEC Benguela.

COSDEC Benguela opened its doors in Luderitz in 2009, offering computer literacy and needle courses. 

The training centre, with a student intake of more than 200 per year, currently offers six TVET courses, among others in plumbing, welding, and hospitality. 

Arandis residents demand land

A number of dissatisfied residents from Arandis have been camping out in front of the Town Council, demanding land, since Sunday.

The residents, mainly elderly individuals, and pregnant women told the nbc News team that they are disheartened by the continuous need to rent accommodation. 

In light of this frustration, they have chosen to spend the night at the location with the intention of submitting their fourth petition to the town council.

Oshakati TC awards prime plot to Mouse Properties

The Oshakati Town Council, under the stewardship of town mayor Leonard Hango, has resolved to endorse the sale of a controversial 1.7 hectare prime land deal that has been in the courts to Mouse Properties Ninety Eight, owned by business mogul Erastus 'Chicco' Shapumba, which was sold then for N$2.5 million dollars, way beyond its market value.

The council this morning resolved to set the new price at N$5.6 million.

Police officers face housing challenge

Otjozondjupa Governor James Uerikua has called upon the local authorities to fast-track the delivery of land and housing for the men and women in uniform.

Uerikua made this call during the State of the Region Address at Otjiwarongo.

Lack of housing is the greatest challenge faced by men and women in uniform, as only a few have managed to acquire houses through various means.

The Mayor of Swakopmund says access to residential land and housing remains the biggest barrier to homeownership, not only in Swakopmund but countrywide.

Dina Namubes said this during the groundbreaking ceremony for phase 3 of the Build Together project in the town.

In January 2017, the Council approved the allocation of 150 erven at Ext. 26 to the Build Together beneficiaries and allocated them land at 7, 8, and 9 extensions.

The council, according to the mayor, managed to construct 70 of the 150 houses in two phases.

Heavens Ark Housing Organisation vs Stephan Malan case postponed

The court case in which the Heavens Ark Housing Organisation, a community housing initiative in Otjomuise is accusing a businessman, Stephan Malan of defrauding them has been postponed to 23 June.

The Windhoek Magistrate's Court has postponed the case of these Otjomuise residents for the umpteenth time, for the Prosecutor General's decision. 

These state-of-the-art accommodation facilities are situated in the disputed land of these disgruntled residents.
