Taxi driver allegedly rapes girl in Omaruru

A 16-year-old girl has allegedly been raped at Omaruru by a taxi driver after a night out drinking.

The incident took place in the early hours of Friday morning.

According to the weekend police report that the girl went out drinking with her aunt, and later asked her aunt to be taken home.

She together with her aunt took a taxi, driven by a known man aged 28.

The aunt left the girl in the room, locked the room and went back to the bar with the same taxi.

Woman raped and brutally murdered in Tsumkwe

A 45-year-old woman was raped and brutally murdered in Tsumkwe at Otjozondjupa Region.

This was confirmed by Otjozondjupa Regional Community Liaison officer, Inspector Maureen Mbeha today.

According to Mbeha, the deceased has been identified as /Koce /Ukxa.

/Ukxa’s body was found in a pool of blood between the Swapo and nbc offices at the settlement on 27 January, shortly after 08h00.

Four rapes reported in three days

Since the end of last week, four rapes have been reported in three days.

NamPol's crime report from the 28th of December to the 1st of January recorded two rapes in Swakopmund's Mondesa residential area.

In one incident, an 18-year-old was allegedly raped in an open area in Mondesa's Mathias Hamukwaya Street on December 28.

On December 30, a 25-year-old woman was allegedly raped by a suspect who is still on the run.

In Khorixas on Thursday, a 13-year-old girl was allegedly raped by a 20-year-old man. The suspect has been arrested.

Kavango East Region inundated with cases of child marriages & rape of children

The Ministry of Gender Equality, Poverty Eradication and Social Welfare in the Kavango East Region is inundated with cases of child marriages and rape involving children as young as 13.

Senior Social Worker Aurelia Mukundu says child marriage is fueled by harmful cultural practices and poverty.

Mukundu was speaking at the celebration of the Day of the Namibian Child at Martin Ndumba Secondary School in the Mukwe Constituency.

She said many cases of child rape go unreported, making it difficult to curb the abuse of children.
