Two men arrested with contraband at Kongola check point

Two male suspects are in custody, and their truck was seized by the Namibian Police at Kongola after contraband was found in their possession during a routine search at the checkpoint.

The suspects, aged 27 and 37, respectively, are said to be employed by a local trucking company.

They were returning from Zambia on Thursday, heading to the coast.

NamPol regional commander in Zambezi, Commissioner Andreas Shilelo, addressed the media in Kongola following the discovery of the illegal consignment.

Katima Mulilo's crime prevention operation a success

The crime prevention operation launched recently at Katima Mulilo has registered success in combating crime.

The operation, which included a community policing forum, was designed to improve crime-fighting strategies in response to reports of high rates of housebreaking in Choto and other compounds.

Only two cases of housebreaking have been reported since the operation started on the 16th of January, compared to an average of two cases per day before the launch.

Zambezi police launches an operation at Choto satellite police station

The police in Zambezi Region have launched an operation at the Choto satellite police station aimed at enhancing the combating of crime strategies.

Members of the community police will also join the operation.

Speaking at the media briefing, the Regional Commander, Commissioner Andreas Shilelo, said certain steps will be taken in order to make the operation a success,

This, he said, will include mapping out targeted locations, beginning with Chotto to determine how big the area is, as well as identifying places to focus on.

Zambezi NamPol's new Commander, Commissioner Andreas Shilelo, says the force will embark on a new community-oriented policing approach that will identify problems faced by the communities and areas of priority.

Commissioner Shilelo was speaking during his welcoming ceremony. "Another important approach is to strengthen the cooperative relationship with our neighbouring countries; Angola, Botswana, Zambia, and Zimbabwe law enforcement agencies and their communities that we interact with all the time.

He replaces Commissioner Marius Katamila, who has gone on retirement.
