Katima Mulilo border 24hr operation increases patients

Health facilities in the Zambezi Region have been experiencing an increase in the number of patients treated since the Katima Mulilo Border Post turned to operating 24 hours per day.

The Managing Director of Enkerhaus Private Hospital in Katima Mulilo, Dr. Ernest Kombo, said the influx requires more support from the private sector for the Katima Mulilo Hospital to provide prompt and quality healthcare services.

Enkerhaus Private Hospital acted on its word, donating medical equipment valued at N$300,000 to the facility.

Swapo Party Katima Mulilo District recruitment drive

Swapo Party Information and Mobilisation Officer for Katima Mulilo Urban District, John Ntemwa, says Swapo is regarded as the home for most Namibians, and therefore there is a need to intensify its recruitment drive.

Ntemwa was speaking during the launch of the recruitment drive ahead of the 2024 national elections.

He says the drive, which will include fundraising activities and increase the party's presence in the community, is long overdue.

Ntemwa also called on all members to rally behind the party's presidential candidate.

Katima Mulilo Hospital clean-up

The Rob Youth Foundation has taken its clean-up campaign to Katima Mulilo Hospital in an effort to provide a safe environment for patients and workers.

Rob Foundaton's Regional Manager for Zambezi, Maria Iikela, told nbc News that the clearing operation is aimed at forging a spirit of unity and responsibility among the youth towards the community.

This will also create awareness about community service.

A group of young people at Katima Mulilo have joined the chorus of the dissatisfied with regards to the selection of enumerators for the Population and Housing Census.

Most of those who took to the streets are from the San community, who say the process was unfair as most minorities did not make the cut. Speaking to nbc News team, unsuccessful applicant Tina Kwala claimed most of the potential enumerators are already employed. She said her community mainly comprises parents who are unable to provide for their families and roam the streets for survival.

Stolen items recovered from Zambian con nanny

The police in Katima Mulilo have recovered stolen items from a female Zambian national who had been employed as a nanny in three separate households.

The items include kitchen cookware and utensils, blankets, clothing, and various other belongings.

Members of the Men and Women Network responded swiftly upon receiving reports of the suspect's intentions to flee back to Zambia.

Katima Mulilo Station Commander Charles Mayumbelo appealed to local businesses to support the Men and Women Network, which is assisting the police in combating crime.

Elderly farmers demand payments

A group of elderly farmers from the Judea Lyaboloma Constituency have taken to the streets of Katima Mulilo, demanding overdue payments for maize sold to a local miller years ago.

The farmers from Malengalenga and Mazinyara handed a petition to the governor, demanding payment from Agrillmill in the Machita area after they allegedly sold their maize grain in 2021 without ever receiving payment from the company.

All roads lead to Katima Mulilo for Public servants in government and private sectors to commemorate Africa Public Service Day, as adopted by Namibia in 2007 after many African countries' Ministers of Labour and Human Resources declared the 23rd of June in 1994 in Morocco.

Katima Mulilo/Zambia Border Post to operate 24/7

The Katima Mulilo Border Post between Namibia and Zambia will start operating 24 hours a day by the end of next month.

The Minister of Home Affairs, Immigration, Safety, and Security, Dr. Albert Kawana, says this is one of the steps the government is taking to ensure smooth trade and services with its neighbouring countries.

Dr. Kawana was addressing a two-week training workshop for the security sector and other agencies operating at the border.
