UK announces that all Namibians will need a visa to UK

The United Kingdom has announced that all Namibian nationals will need a visa before travelling to the UK, including to visit, as of today.

In a statement, the British High Commissioner to Namibia, Charles Moore, explained that the decision to impose a visa regime was made because of the "sustained and significant increase since 2016 in the number of UK asylum applications from Namibian nationals at the UK border. This constitutes an abuse of the provision to visit the UK for a limited period as non-visa nationals."

Namibia remains safe and stable- Naanda

Namibia's government says the country remains a safe and stable place to live, adding that those seeking asylum in foreign jurisdictions do so out of personal choice.

Reports have, however, surfaced that a significant number of Namibians left the country seeking refuge in the United Kingdom.

This week, news reports circulated that over a thousand Namibians who applied for asylum in the UK were denied.

UK's Cardiff University donates to UNAM's Ogongo Agricultural Campus

The UK's Cardiff University has donated N$4 million to the University of Namibia's Ogongo Agricultural Campus, which it used to purchase various pieces of machinery.

The money was used to buy, among other things, tractors, baler machines, and hay rakes to help the campus improve its production and to assist students to learn by using modern agricultural practices.

Because most indigenous trees are on the verge of extinction, the two universities also invested in the purchase of indigenous trees, which will be planted at the campus bio-diverse forest.
