World Water Day observed

Countries around the world observed World Water Day on Wednesday.

At Otjiwarongo, residents of the informal settlements there used the occasion to call on their municipality to set up water points close to their households.

The United Nations' World Water Day is a reminder of how essential clean water and sanitation are to live.

The government is making efforts to ensure that all Namibians have access to clean water.

Flood victims receive donations UN organizations

The United Nations family of organizations in Namibia has donated commodities worth N$2 million towards assisting flood victims in the Ohangwena and Oshana regions.

The United Nations family came together and mobilized humanitarian assistance to people affected by floods, saying disasters and climate risks pose serious threats to key sectors of Namibia and the ultimate realization of Sustainable Development Goals.

International Labour Organisation chooses Namibia to be a pathfinder country

Namibia could become a country to discover or show others a path.

This was was said by the delegation of the International Labour Organisation and the United Nations after concluding a week-long mission in the country.

The eight-member delegation held discussions with the President's office, Prime Minister, Government Ministers, Banks and development partners.

Namibia was chosen by the ILO to receive the first high-scoping Level Mission for a possible Pathfinder country,  an initiative of the UN's Global Accelerator initiative. 

President Geingob calls on Namibians, SADC region citizens to nurture culture of peace and stability

President Hage Geingob is calling on Namibians and the citizens of the SADC region at large to nurture and intensify a culture of peace and stability.

Dr Geingob's call comes as the world marks the United Nations International Day of Non-Violence on the 2nd of October.

The day, which is also the birthday of the Indian anti-colonialist leader, Mahatma Gandhi, is an occasion to disseminate the message of non-violence through education and public awareness and reaffirm the desire for a culture of peace, tolerance, understanding and non-violence.
