President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah says restoring trust in the United Nations must remain central to Namibia’s engagement at the 81st General Assembly, as geopolitical tensions continue to threaten global peace and stability.

During a briefing session with Namibia’s delegation on Sunday in New York, Nandi-Ndaitwah placed the UN Charter’s founding commitment to peace and security at the pinnacle of the country’s diplomatic mission.

She also raised concerns over conflicts straining international cooperation and declining confidence in the global body, but said member states must use the UN as a platform to resolve disputes and protect its founding principles.

The theme of the 81st session is ‘Restoring Trust, Managing Transformation: A United Nations that Delivers for All’, which the President describes as timely, amid growing concerns over the organisation’s ability to deliver on its mandate.

The briefing focused on narrowing Namibia’s priorities, allocating responsibilities and ensuring the country’s effective representation during the General Assembly and parallel sessions.
