The Ministries of Fisheries and Labour signed an agreement with two fishing companies to re-employ part of the 1130 unemployed fishermen who lost their jobs eight years ago.

The signing comes after a few delays in the Attorney General's office reviewing the contracts.

The president of TUCNA has called on the government to hold employers accountable and to ensure sound labour relations at workplaces, especially in the fishing industry.

Paulus Hango made this call during the Worker's Day commemoration at Walvis Bay.

Fisheries and Marine Resources Minister Derek Klazen is concerned about labour unrest in the fishing industry.

Minister Klazen was addressing union representatives and fishing industry leaders at the launch of the National Fish Consumption Day at Walvis Bay.
