Homeless exposed to harsh weather

The homeless and those living in extreme poverty are more exposed to harsh weather conditions.

To establish how some survive the winter, reporter Eveline Paulus visited the underprivileged residents of Otjiwarongo and compiled this.

Waking up early on cold mornings is this group of impoverished people, who rush to the Otjiwarongo dumpsite in search of food and other valuable items to sell.

Mothers can be seen with their babies, including an unsupervised toddler about five years old.

 Omadiva B village residents concerned over a dumpsite

Residents of Omadiva B village in the Oshikoto Region have expressed concern over a dumpsite erected close to their homesteads by the Omuthiya Town Council, saying it poses a health hazard.

They also accused the town council of having failed to compensate most of them since the dumpsite was relocated there 15 years ago.

Frustrated residents are also bemoaning the lack of consultation when the dumpsite was relocated in the middle of the village, where medical waste is also discarded.

Goreangab residents express discontent with temporary waste disposal site

Some residents at Goreangab informal settlement have expressed discontent with a temporary waste disposal site that has been allegedly turned into a dumpsite by the community and the Windhoek Municipality.

The temporary residential waste disposal site is located at the Goreangab four-way and serves Thlabanelo Number Two residents as well as residents from other nearby communities.
