Census enumerators threatened

Some residents who reside in the Windhoek Rural Constituency have threatened to unleash dogs on Census enumerators who do not speak the indigenous languages of the people in those areas.

Windhoek Rural Constituency Councillor, Piet Adams, called a press conference today where he, together with those who did not make the cut, decried the selection process of shortlisted candidates in the constituency. The allegations include the term tribalism, which the government and those with authority warn against.

Tsumkwe Youth strive for government involvement in mass employment

Young people from Tsumkwe, in the Otjozondjupa Region, are steadfast in their quest to be included in mass employment by the government and its agencies. They vow to boycott and disrupt the upcoming Population and Housing Census process. On Tuesday, the youth took to the streets to vent their frustrations over the matter.

NSA gears up for 2023 Census

Namibian Statistics Agency (NSA) Statistician General Alex Shimuafeni is confident that the 2023 Population and Housing Census will be less prone to errors than ever.

Shimwafeni says the NSA will deploy a digital enumeration system for the first time this year.

The NSA continued its information-sharing engagements at a media briefing held in Swakopmund.

The Statistician General, Alex Shimuafeni, says the digital system will also reduce the waiting period for survey results.

N$706 million allocated to 2023 Population & Housing Census

About N$706 million has been allocated to the 2023 Population and Housing Census, scheduled to take place this year.

This information was disclosed during a presentation of the 2023 Population and Housing Census update to stakeholders, including members of the diplomatic corps and development partners.

Alex Shimuafeni, the Statistician-General and CEO, emphasised that the Namibia Statistics Agency (NSA) will pave the way for innovative approaches, data-driven policies, and evidence-based decision-making.

NSA expects to employ over 13,000 people

The Namibia Statistics Agency (NSA) expects to employ over 13,000 people around the country during the period of the 2023 Population and Housing Census slated for August this year.

This was revealed by Abel Sindano, the Executive for Economic Statistics at the NSA.

Sindano said that apart from carrying out the counting process, the aim of the exercise is to help put a dent in the high number of unemployed youth by giving them priority during the recruitment process, which is expected to begin this month.

Pilot Namibian Housing Information System launched

The Namibia Statistics Agency and the Ministry of Urban and Rural Development have launched the pilot Namibian Housing Information System.

The aim of the system is to make housing and land data readily available in the country.

The housing statistics in Namibia are now available immediately by just clicking a button, following the launch of the Housing Information System.

The centralised system will have all housing information in the country as provided by, among others, regional councils and local authorities to guide policymakers.
