The Oshana Regional Governor, Elia Irimari, has extended a message of condolence, expressing his wishes for strength to the family of former President Geingob during this period of mourning.

The death of President Dr. Hage Geingob has sent shockwaves through the sports fraternity in Namibia.

Geingob was an avid sports enthusiast who made significant contributions to the development of sports in the country.

NBC Sport spoke to Oshana Regional Governor Elia Irimari at his office in Oshakati as he extended his message of condolences.

Uukwambi Chief speaks against fencing of grazing land

The Chief of Uukwambi Traditional Authority, Ndilimani Iipumbu, and the Oshana Regional Governor, Elia Irimari, have joined forces to stop the illegal fencing of large areas of communal land, particularly grazing areas.

The governor, joined by various stakeholders, spoke about the issue during an engagement at the chief's residence in Onamega Village.

They have pledged to take decisive action against those engaging in fencing land, emphasising the importance of protecting valuable grazing resources for the benefit of the community.

Oshana Regional Council avails facilities NSA

Oshana Regional Council will avail its facilities to the Namibian Statistics Agency (NSA) during the upcoming Population and Housing Census, slated for later this year.

Addressing an NSA engagement meeting, Governor Elia Irimari assured the agency that it would be given space and resources to ensure that the upcoming census is carried out effectively and efficiently.

This year's census will be conducted from August to October 2023. 

Regional Governors call for more research that solves Socio-economic problems

Regional governors who attended the Validation Workshop for Science, Technology, and Innovation at Swakopmund, have called on researchers to conduct research that solves socio-economic problems. 

According to a national survey, Namibia has increased investment in research, as the country spent about 0.6% of its GDP on research in 2022, compared to 0.34% in 2014.

Safety of residents should take center stage during upcoming festive season - Irimari

Oshana Governor Elia Irimari says the safety of people should take center stage during the upcoming festive season as the influx of visitors has started.

Irimari made these remarks in a speech read on his behalf during the launch of the festive season road safety campaign at Oshiko Road Block in Ongwediva.

The governor says residents and visitors should enjoy the festive season as police will be visible on major roads to reduce road accidents.

Oshana Governor disappointed at lack of attendance to Regional Validation workshop

Oshana Governor, Elia Irimari, is disappointed with the failure of some local authorities to attend the Regional Validation workshop on the Integrated Regional Land Use Plan held at Oshakati recently.

Irimari expressed disappointment during the opening of the Integrated Regional Land Use Plan Validation Workshop, which was organised by the Ministry of Agriculture, Water and Land Reform in conjunction with the Oshana Regional Council.

He particularly referred to the absence of the Ondangwa and Ongwediva town councils.

New facilities at Andimba Toivo ya Toivo Secondary School handed over to Education Minister

The newly completed facilities at Andimba Toivo ya Toivo Secondary School in the Oshana Region were handed over to the Minister of Education, Arts and Culture, Anna Nghipondoka.

The inaugurated facilities include nine new hostel blocks, 40 classrooms, seven laboratories, 47 storerooms, an administration block, a kitchen and dining hall,

The buildings, constructed at a cost of N$160 million, also include staff accommodation, a multipurpose hall, two ablution blocks, a matron's quarters and childcare rooms.
