As the nbc talk show "The Wheels of Justice" celebrates one year of informing and educating the public on legal matters, more Namibians are acquainted with the law and how to resolve legal matters.

This is exactly the aim.

Despite legal certainty in Namibia, there are some areas and practices that remain challenging, including accessibility and the need for ordinary Namibians to understand critical aspects of the justice system.

Thus, exactly one year ago, nbc premiered a legal talk show, "The Wheels of Justice", launched by Chief Justice Peter Shivute.

Justice Ministry clarifies Eva Nangolo's employment status

The Ministry of Justice has stated that social media posts and video clips claiming that embattled lawyer Eva Nangolo has been dismissed from her post are inaccurate.

Nangolo's legal aid certificate was revoked by Justice Minister Yvonne Dausab after she made tribal slurs about Damara-speaking Namibians on her Twitter page a week ago, which received widespread condemnation.

According to a statement issued by the Ministry of Justice spokesperson, Simon Idipo, only Nangolo's certificate to practice in court has been withdrawn pending investigations into her conduct.

Whistleblower Protection Act & Witness Protection Act to come into effect

The long-awaited implementation of the Whistleblower Protection Act and the Witness Protection Act will come into effect during this financial year.

This was revealed by Justice Minister Yvonne Dausab when she motivated her ministry's budget of close to N$600 million in the National Assembly.

The two legislations, which were signed into law in 2017 by President Hage Geingob, could not be implemented due to budgetary constraints.

Namibian Boxers too strong for Malawi and SA

The much-anticipated "Back To Action" boxing bonanza took place Saturday night at the Safari Court and Hotel. 

The event, which was attended by the Minister of Justice, Yvonne Dausab, and the Minister of Sport, Youth and National Service, Agnes Tjongarero, hosted 15 bouts altogether.

The first Namibian to take on a foreign boxer Saturday night was Lazarus Shaningwa.

He got into the ring with Israel Kammwamba from Malawi, winning the fight on points.

Harry Simon Junior then took on Limbani Chikapa in the welterweight category.

Oukwanyama Traditional Authority requests satellite community courts

The leadership of the Oukwanyama Traditional Authority has appealed to the Minister of Justice to look into approving the establishment of three-satellite community courts at Okongo, Eenhana and Omungwelume.

This call was made during a meeting between the minister, Yvonne Dausab, and the traditional authority leadership as well as community court officials.

Dausab is currently on a working visit to the Ohangwena, Oshana, and Oshikoto regions to source input on how best the ministry can work together with traditional authorities and community court officials.

Justice Minister tables bill to repeal obsolete laws

The Minister of Justice, Yvonne Dausab, has tabled a bill in the National Assembly to have all obsolete laws repealed.

In her motivation, Dausab said the bill will implement the recommendations of the Law and Development Commission of Namibia, which will in turn improve the lives of Namibians in various ways.

She said obsolete laws are those dating back to colonial times, particularly those penned in service of apartheid ideology.

The government, she says, plans to carry out a large-scale repeal of all past laws.
